Spring Forward
Did you spring forward?
Springing forward, of course, refers to setting the clocks an hour ahead to Daylight Savings Time.
Did you lose an hour’s sleep or did you plan for it and go to bed an hour earlier?
Time is precious. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. Are you using your time wisely. What are your time wasters?
Today – in chunks of 30 or 60 minutes, write down everything you do.
This doesn’t have to be in minute detail, but in small enough chunks to indicate where you are spending your time.
At the end of the day, review your list. Highlight any time wasters. Unimportant e-mails? Surfing the internet? Long, chatty phone calls? Computer games? How much television did you watch?
Maybe you’re doing things because you enjoy them, but are they the best use of your time. Are they moving you toward your goals?
A great way to avoid time wasters is to spend some time planning your day, either the night before or first thing in the morning. Set you priorities so that someone else doesn’t get the chance. Yes, sometimes things will happen that can take you off track. But even running errands can be optimized if you take a little time to plan ahead.
Oh, and don’t forget to delegate. More on that next week.
