MAYDAY MAYDAY

Six Easy Steps to Re-Set your 2016 Goals

If you are like me, you recently looked at the calendar and wondered where the first four months of the year have gone.

Suddenly it is the first of May, Summer is just around the corner and before you blink again, the Summer will be over.

No, I don’t want to be the bearer of doom and gloom, but this could be a good time to evaluate where you are with regard to those big goals you set at the beginning of the year.

“Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.”

~ Bill Gates

Here are some easy steps to help you get back on track.

1. Review your goals
2. Review your progress
3. Celebrate your successes
4. Re-evaluate your target
5. Create an action plan
6. Get help

  1. Review your goals – Begin by reviewing the goals that your wrote down at the beginning of the year. You did write them down, didn’t you. Well if you didn’t, now would be a good time to get the out of your head and on the page.
  2. Review your progress – Review each goal and asses where you are. Have your completed your goal? Have you taken steps to move closer to your goal? Be honest, but don’t beat yourself up about lace of progress.
  3. Celebrate your successes – take a moment to give yourself a pat on the back, a wooo hooo or a little happy dance, to celebrate what you have accomplished. I highly recommend keeping a success journal on a regular basis, no, you do not have to write in it every day. But most days is a good practice.
  4. Re-evaluate your target – perhaps you need to make an adjustment to your goal. Make sure it is achievable, but still a stretch. You don’t want it to be too easy or too hard.
  5. Create an action plan – based on where you are now, what steps to you need to take to move closer to your goal? Small steps are just fine. Do one thing today to give yourself some momemtum.
  6. Get Help – Whether you hire a coach, or join forces with a friend to be each other’s accountability buddies, don’t do it alone. We need support, encouragement and someone to bounce ideas around with. See below for more information on my Stride Into Summer online group coaching program. I would love to help you have a fun and productive summer.
